Allotments

Memories of Alan Hitchman

There used to be an allotment behind the Kingstanding Settlement Hall on the Kingstanding road near a group of shops and a Service station (gararge) near the corner of Tresham Road and Kingstanding Road.

Memories of David Wall

There were allotments in the area known locally as ‘The Pimple’ bounded by
Hurlingham, Sidcup, Finchley, Ellerton, Warren Farm Roads and Danesbury Crescent. They were mainly behind the houses on the northern side of Sidcup above Crayford Road.
The Pimple was reputed to be for similar use as ‘Barr Beacon’ where a fire was to be lit in case of Invasion.
There was a small dirt cycle track on the southern side behind houses in Hurlingham Road.

  3. I notice that on the Interactive Map ‘The Pimple’ is known as Kingstanding Beacon – never known as that when I lived there between 1948 & 1963.

Note to Moderator – Perhaps you could append this above to my previous post.

    • If i remember correctly it was called Kingstanding Beacon in the A-Z in the 60s & 70s

  4. The pimple was my stamping ground too amongst the old prams and corrugated iron.we used to think the fenced off, locked area at the top, was where Marians once landed. Eventually I learned it was the site of wartime anti aircraft guns. The dirt bike track was the domain of Raymond Gough and Trevor Bowles. Great for sledging too!
